Finishing outside the places just once over his 13 race career so far, Able Friend ran a credible fourth amongst classy competition in the Group 2 Premier Bowl (1200m) first-up on October 26th before charging home to win the Group 2 Jockey Club Mile (1600m) by close to three lengths last time out on November 23rd.

Having taken well to work in the lead-up to International Day 2014 on Sunday, Moore revealed he could not be more pleased with the condition of the Shamardal gelding and is confident he figures as an excellent chance for success in the 2014 Hong Kong Mile.

“Well, he could be anything,” Moore told TVN.

“He was brilliant winning the lead-up and he heads our team this year which is the best hand I’ve ever had on International day and not just in quantity but also in quality.

“It was a phenomenal run last time and we thought he was underdone. I don’t need to do much more with him.

“If he does what he did the other day in 1m 33s on the bit, what more do you need to do. He’s ready to rumble!”

Claiming an impressive total of seven race wins over his short career so far, Able Friend ran second in a minor over 1200m and took out a 1350m sprint event at Wyong under the care of Team Hawkes before transferring to the care of Moore in Hong Kong partway through 2013.

Winning his Sha Tin debut by two-and-a-half lengths in June 2013, the gelding out of Ponte Piccolo quickly built to the take over an impressive summer and autumn campaign this year; winning minors over 1400m and 1600m before breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level in the Group 1 Hong Kong Classic Mile (1600m) on January 19th.

Placing second in each of the Group 1 Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m), Group 1 Hong Kong Derby (2000m) and Group 1 Champions Mile (1600m) and winning the Group 2 Chairman’s Trophy (1600m) in the months proceeding, Able Friend is currently available as clear $1.80 favourite in Hong Kong Mile betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
